About — built.blue

What is this?

built.blue is an opt-in service for creative people on Bluesky. If you make things — art, music, code, writing, ceramics, dance, gardens, textiles — there's a community here where your work can find an audience beyond your existing followers.

You join by signing in with your Bluesky account and choosing which communities fit you. That's it. No new account, no new password. We use Bluesky's standard sign-in, so we never see your credentials.

What happens when you join?

Once you're a member of a community, posts you make on Bluesky that match your community start appearing in two places:

Community feeds

Each community has a curated Bluesky feed — like the Visual feed, or the Word feed — that shows recent posts from members. Anyone on Bluesky can follow these feeds. Posts appear there within a day of being made.
Community accounts

Each community also has its own Bluesky account (like visual.built.blue or code.built.blue). These accounts repost standout work from members automatically — so followers of those accounts get a highlight reel rather than everything at once.
Creative Profile

built.blue can read your recent posts and describe your creative identity — what communities your work touches, and what kind of creator you are across them. You can share a profile card to Bluesky if you like.

Member curation

The feeds aren't purely algorithmic. The keywords and signals that determine which posts surface in each community are shaped partly by members themselves. If you notice a term that should belong to a community — or one that doesn't — you can suggest and vote on changes through the curation page.

Privacy and control

Membership is public — it shows as a label on your Bluesky profile under the built.blue labeler. You can remove yourself from any community at any time from the communities page, and your posts will stop appearing in feeds within 24 hours.

You can also opt out of the reposter and scoring entirely, while still appearing in feeds, if you prefer. Just let the admin know.
